The private providers listed in this Directory who practice
various aspects of mental health services were surveyed, and all
credential information as well as special interest areas are
self-reported.
Psychiatrists are the only providers with a medical degree (M.D.)
are therefore the only group that may prescribe medication.
Other professional groups listed (with academic degree in
parentheses) include psychologists (Ph.D., Psy. D., Ed.D. M.A.),
clinical psychologists (Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D.), clinical social
workers (M.S.W.), school psychologists (Ed.D., Ed.S., M.Ed., M.A.).
Training, expertise and area of interest can vary considerably
within and between each professional group. Therefore, it is
suggested that the person seeking mental health service determine
which professional can best meet their particular needs.
The range of fees for services can vary up to $95.00 per hour for
an individual session. Costs for group sessions may be at a
lower rate per hour. Some of the listed providers have
“sliding scales” based on their costs and a client’s ability to pay.
Every professional listed has an ethical responsibility to give some
amount of service to clients who cannot pay for the needed service.
It is at the discretion of the provider to make that decision.
Most providers listed can receive third party payments, but policies
of different health insurance companies may set limitations on the
allowable types of providers by professional group. Consumers
are encouraged to check their policies and /or their employers for
specific information affecting their coverage.
Persons interested in making appointments must make arrangements
by telephone for private providers. Many of the providers
listed have evening hours should a daytime appointment not be
possible.
